Leisure activities in Vaggeryd

Vaggeryd municipality has a number of organisations and adult education associations that offer leisure activities. Finding a leisure activity is a good way to get to know people and the local community. Here you will find some information about leisure activities and some of the larger associations.

Swimming baths

The municipality has two swimming baths, one in Vaggeryd and one in Skillingaryd. At the swimming baths you can bathe, swim, go to the tanning studio or sign up for activities such as swimming lessons, baby swimming activities and water aerobics.

The School of Culture

The School of Culture is aimed at children and young persons in Vaggeryd municipality, but also offers courses for adults. At the School of Culture you can learn to sing and play instruments, dance, paint and take part in drama. To attend the School of Culture, you must apply ahead of each term/academic year.

After-school leisure centres

Vaggeryd municipality has two after-school leisure centres for children between 13 and 18 years of age: UC (Ungdomscaféet) in Vaggeryd and UG (Ungdomsgården) in Skillingaryd. These are open centres for young people. You do not need to be a member or pay to visit the centres.

Discovering nature

In Sweden you are allowed to explore nature, even if it is on land that is owned by someone else. However, you need to be considerate and care for nature. You are free to pick flowers, berries and mushrooms, but please note that some plants and flowers are endangered and thus may not be picked. Special rules apply to national parks and nature reserves.

Fishing

To fish in lakes and streams, you need to purchase a fishing licence. In the summer time, you can buy fishing licences at the tourist office.

Cinema and theatre

Vaggeryd has a local cinema at Folkets hus. In Skillingaryd, the theatre association puts on various shows. Jönköping has a larger cinema as well as the regional culture house Spira.

Sports clubs, arts clubs and churches

Sport is a popular pastime in Vaggeryd municipality, and there are a number of clubs in sports such as gymnastics, Thai and kick boxing, football, ice hockey, bowling, cricket, horseback riding, golf, slalom and bandy.
